Growing dungiven
What is grow dungiven?
Grow Dungiven is an early attempt to co-ordinate future regeneration of the town. It builds on previous work (e.g. 2018 Village Plan) and is designed to shape the ‘Dungiven Regeneration’ project. A project which could potentially be funded under Causeway Coast & Glen Borough Council’s Growth Deal (see below), and is currently the subject of a Strategic Outline Case (SOC). As part of this process, we are keen to hear your views.
HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED?
We are keen to hear from as many people as possible. You can get involved via:
A drop-in informal information session (7-8:30pm on Tuesday 4th October in Glenshane Community Development Ltd’s Office, 114 Main Street, Dungiven)
Via the online survey below
Via the comment form below
*** These are all now closed. Thank you to all those who contributed. In total we had over 30 attend the drop-in session and have over 180 responses to the survey. ***
WHAT IS THE GROWTH DEAL?
The UK Government set up a UK Growth Deal fund to support digital and innovation projects. Councils in NI have made bids for this funding, which has then been matched by NI Executive Funds. The match funding has enabled the overall ‘Growth Deal’ to consider wider tourism, regeneration, infrastructure, employability and skills investments. Dungiven Regeneration is one of the shortlisted projects under the Causeway Coast & Glens Borough Council’s Growth Deal. The UK Growth Deal Fund sets out strict criteria, processes and timelines that must be followed. The first step is to set out an SOC, which is where we are now.
NB This does not mean other capital projects aren’t equally valid or won’t get funded, it just means that they have to look elsewhere for funding (e.g. Departmental Funding, Levelling Up, Peace Plus etc)
WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
We will collate the feedback from the consultation, and bring in McAdam Design to provide more detailed technical input, design and costs. This will be used to create a Regeneration Framework, essentially a more formal document of the above presentation. The next step will be completing the SOC, a 6-10 page document that outlines the project in the format required by the UK Growth Fund. It will then follow a fixed process, of which if successful, the next stage would be the development of more detailed Outline Business Case (OBC) in 2023. Successful projects would not be expected to get funding until 2024.
Separately to this process, a new town masterplanning exercise may also take place, which could then feed into the OBC.
